The artist has handed over the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to protect the UK's independent concert spaces.

He was given the prize on 16 October as his latest record the album was declared the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the crucial part small stages had in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing this success if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support numerous grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped venues that were facing potential shutdown due to issues caused by water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations received monetary aid in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that helped performers and audiences.

"The concept that funds from performances in large arenas supports the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is not the first artist to give his award prize money to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the prize in the year 1996 for their record Different Class, frontman Jarvis Cocker stated that the group would contribute their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, musician the artist split her prize between several charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I donated a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Previously, the band donated their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners M People contributed their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked vocalist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success affected another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected two small stages in that region, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in the city and The Croft in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by a national body and music fans who acquire "shares" in the venues.
